Carrie and all Sparta,
I just wanted to drop a note of thanks. Though this note goes to all of your at Spartan Race, I didn’t know who would be best to send it to and having followed you on the blog I thought I would at least start with you.
I wanted to thank Spartan Racing for inspiring me. Funny as it may sound since I haven’t had the chance to compete in a Spartan Race yet, but the mission and actions of the Spartan Race ‘family’ have inspired me to train harder and to be better. Through Spartan videos, blog entries, stories, W.O.D.s, and pod casts I have come to admire your organization. The team Joe has put together is amazing. The people outside that team, the racers, are inspiring. Again I want this thank you to go to the whole organization.
I am registered for three Spartan races this year and hope to complete the Trifecta. This coming a year removed from being 300 pounds and anything but active. I have had the opportunity to run three races so far in other series (Warrior Dash and Run Ruckus) but the Spartan Race is what keeps me training and pushing myself. Your creed and outreach speak to me.
I am an evangelist for your organization and obstacle course racing and have joined the Street Team (though it is hard with the closest Spartan Race being 4 hours away). I hope to soon convince Spartan Race to come to Western Pennsylvania and hold a race at one of our ski resorts.
Again, I just wanted to drop a note to thank your organization for being a part of me getting my life back.
Arooo,
Chris Detar
PS: Have you ever thought about having a heavy weights division for races. My local Turkey Trot 5k has a “Clydesdale” division for people over 225 pounds. Some of us Clydesdale sized people will never keep up with the Hobie Call’s of the world.
