When Shonda Morris, Spartan Regional Manager, took off from the start line of the Jay 50K trail marathon in Vermont in July of 2008, she didn’t know what awaited her at the finish over eight hours later. The Jay is infamous for river crossings, an ascent of Jay peak, and a healthy dose of, what else, mud! It’s a tough course for any seasoned athlete.
With her the entire way was Shonda’s then boyfriend Mike Morris, one of Spartan’s Race Director’s, who details her journey up, and around the course ending with him down on one knee popping the question at the finish line in the video below.
Today, they make their home on the East Coast and welcomed a son last year, Logan, who keeps them hopping. You can thank Mike Morris for many of the challenging courses you face each year including last year’s infamous Vermont Beast. Shonda’s race management include Indiana, Chicago, and Utah.
Their story is a reminder that love is often found in the unlikeliest of places, well, unlikely for anyone except for maybe a Spartan… or two.
