The Reebok Spartan Race will make its debut in Cornhusker Country on October 12 in Lincoln, Nebraska. It will be held at Abbott Sports Complex just outside of Lincoln. The complex features a creek, hills, and a unique ATV track. There will be three fast miles on fairly flat cornfield terrain with more than 15 Spartan-tough obstacles to conquer. The course will be extremely spectator friendly. There will be lots of opportunities to catch the action of the obstacles and there will be bleachers for fans to cheer on their favorite Spartans.
Who to watch: A fan favorite and face quite familiar to the top podium step, Amelia Boone, reigning Spartan Race World Champion will be bringing her fast sprint action to Cornhusker Country. Challenging Amelia we will be seeing Rose Wetzel Sinnett, a speedster who is not to be underestimated. Rose has completed 5k races with times the 16 minute range. She has also placed very well in her first Spartan Race in Pacific NW a few months ago.
On the men’s side, look for Spartan veterans and top elites Elliott Megquier, Chris Rutz, Jeff Bent, and Joe Kauder to be right up there in the lead. Rob Michaud from Wyoming will also be battling for one of the top spots, Rob consistently places in the top percent of Spartan Races in which he competes. James Appleton, United Kingdom’s top obstacle course racer, will be showing us what game he has on flatter terrain in Cornhusker Land. The 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games Third Place male, Kyle Kasperbauer, will also be out there tearing up the course with some friends from his box CrossFit Omaha.
Although this is the first Spartan Race to Nebraska, it promises to be full of competition and packed with excitement. The weather forecast sounds favorable for a perfect day in the land of the Cornhuskers.
