On the women’s cash prize side, Xterra racer Jenny Tobin took top spot and the women’s $10,000 cash prize with a time of 1:45:09, second place went to Jackie Rust with a time of 1:52:15, and Irene Call (yes, wife of 393308_10150389189766861_251061411860_8883470_764581073_nHobie Call) took third with a time of 1:53:32.  Felicia LeRoy and Leigh Cordell rounded out the top five for the women of the day.  For full results go HERE.

The kids race was at 12:15 and 100% of the Kid’s Course proceeds go to the Rod Dixon Kid’s Marathon Foundation and was also a crowd pleaser with almost 300 Spartans-in-training taking part and taking home their own medals for their Spartan glory.

382642_10150389187016861_251061411860_8883431_1833204175_nRough Creek Lodge with it’s thousands of acres was an idyllic spot for our race. The Texas course was a monster and many noted it feeling like a “Mini-Beast” due to the terrain, the 36 obstacles and the multiple water crossings with the dreaded Trevelyan Traverse near the end again forcing runners to cross the line just before the finish and on tired legs.  The barbed wire featured clumps of native cacti and even some cow poop as the animals roamed around various portions of the course.  379878_10150389188546861_251061411860_8883451_1660519349_nFrom single tracks to water crossing and heavy carries – both a sand bag AND a bucket carry graced this course, runners were kept on their toes for the entire 8+ mile course.

Our festival grounds featured amazing Texas style BBQ and some challenges for the spectators and competitors alike with a traverse wall, spear throw, ice submersion, and pull up challenge with the winners walking away with a season pass!  These challenges will be featured at our upcoming events so even the spectators can leave with Spartan glory, while staying relatively clean!

Spartan Race prides itself on being a unique event on this planet. We don’t just say it, either. Our pictures capture the spirit of the race, the struggles and triumphs of our athletes, and the glory of race days. When it came to choosing a photographer for Spartan Races, we wanted something that was candid, dynamic, and representative of a race designed to make you suffer yet inspire you to overcome. Enter Brent Doscher from Nuvision Action Image.

Photo Courtesy of Nuvision Action ImageDoscher shot our Vermont Race in 2010 and when it came time to interview people for a full-time photographer, it was an easy decision. Jason Jaksetic, Spartan’s Digital Marketing Director, said, “It was a matter of go big corporate or go for quality, unique, and enthusiastic…Brent made that easy for us to decide.” Brent’s work is visually stunning, and as an athlete himself, he understands the toil and he captures it brilliantly. “He kicks ass and we wouldn’t change him for the world. His artistic vision is more than we could hope for and he’s an integral part of the team. We consider him a Spartan,” says Jaksetic.

Talking with Brent, you realize immediately that he loves his job and that he loves taking pictures for Spartan. “I am a triathlete and a cyclist and a runner myself. I worked for all the big companies and thought we could capture something cooler. So, I though, why don’t I start a company and do all those better.”
